From Hedgerow to Bottle: The Story of Whitby Sloe Gin

Our new Whitby Sloe Gin started with a simple idea:

Ask the community to help us gather sloes.

And they did.

During the 2025 harvest, locals, friends, customers and supporters headed into the hedgerows, filled bags and buckets, and brought their sloes back to the distillery.

It was brilliant, slightly chaotic and genuinely humbling.

A proper community spirit

Every bottle begins with wild sloes picked by real people from around Whitby and North Yorkshire.

Some knew exactly where to look. Others were first-time foragers. Plenty returned with scratched hands, stained fingers and very full tubs.

Every single contribution helped.

Then we let time do the work

The sloes were steeped in our award-winning Whitby Gin Original Edition and left to slowly release their deep colour and rich hedgerow flavour.

The result is a natural ruby-red gin, bursting with sloe berries, blackberry and plum, balanced by soft juniper and a gentle citrus zest.

No artificial colour. No shortcuts. Just real fruit, good gin and patience.

Best served your way

Pour it over ice, top with light tonic and garnish with blackberries and orange.

Add a splash to prosecco for something celebratory.

Or enjoy it neat when the Whitby weather turns wild.

We are incredibly proud of this gin, but even more grateful to everyone who helped create it.

Every bottle carries a little piece of Whitby, the surrounding countryside and the people who gave up their time to pick for us.
