We’re thrilled to share a snapshot of progress from our newest site at Abbey Lands Farm a short walk from the clifftop ruins of Whitby Abbey. This isn’t just a distillery build; it’s a project that blends history, purpose, and place in a way we hope will do justice to the landscape we call home.
Reviving Historic Barns with Intent
The bones of this distillery are two 19th-century stone barns, now being carefully restored to house our still, visitor centre, and gathering spaces. We’re working with Native Architects to preserve character while adapting for future use.
The new design includes wildflower green roofs, solar panels, and systems for recycled heat and water, all built with locally sourced materials that keep embodied carbon low. It’s a refresh of heritage through a sustainability lens.
Why This Place Matters
Abbey Lands Farm means more than geography. Building just footsteps from Whitby Abbey, our site brings together craft distilling, community, and coastal heritage
What’s Coming Next
We’ll be sharing updates over the coming months behind-the-scenes looks at restoration, design thinking, and the practical challenges of converting old barns into efficient, low-carbon production spaces.
If you’re interested in sustainable architecture, coastal craftsmanship, or local heritage in action stay tuned.
Thanks for being here at the beginning.
