After 3 long years, we have finally been able to see the birth of our bespoke Whitby Gin bottle. It has been well worth the wait to see batch 3 of our Whitby Distillery vessels being made.

Back in 2020, we launched our coastal vessel with the help of Stoelzle Glass Group. Situated in the heart of West Yorkshire, the British glass factory has more than 200 years of experience in the art of making glass. The first Stoelzle glassworks was founded in Austria in 1805 and has become one of the top glass manufacturers in the world. We are super proud to have such an asset to the glass industry on our doorstep.

Bottles continued to be checked by hand today to ensure only the best are shipped to our distillery.

Glass is a material that was discovered by our ancestors thousands of years ago when it was found that a lightning strike melted quartz sand. Today glass is made with sand and other compounds that are heated in a furnace that reaches temperatures of up to 1,600 °C. The gobs of molten glass are then pressed and blown into our mould.

When we arrived at the site and entered the factory we were greeted with the hammering sounds and heat from the ginormous furnace that runs 24 7.

The process is hypnotizing to watch. The length that Stoelzle go to ensure only the best product is crafted is outstanding. Every bottle is individually inspected. That’s a lot of bottles when a day's run is over 30k bottles.

Glass can be endlessly recycled without losing quality. We chose to partner with Stoezle because not only are they local but they're committed to reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The team are super friendly, creative and passionate about what they do.

Luke and I had a thoroughly enjoyable day and we will never look at our bottles in the same way again.
