As the nights draw in and sea mist drifts over the Abbey ruins, Whitby begins to feel different.
The light softens, the shadows lengthen and the town’s gothic heart begins to stir.
It’s at this time of year that our most mysterious spirits come to life.
Each autumn, we release a limited-edition gin or rum inspired by Whitby’s folklore — stories of sea serpents, shipwrecks, vampires, and ghostly hounds that have shaped our coastal home for centuries.
Let’s take a look back at the spirits that have risen over the years.
100% British blackberries, ginger, and Whitby spirit.
The story begins with the man who put Whitby on the gothic map: Bram Stoker.
In 2018, to mark Whitby’s enduring link to Dracula, we created The Stoker Edition, a rich, warming gin inspired by the writer’s time in the town and the chilling tale it inspired.
Distilled with blackberries and ginger, it’s darkly fruity and softly spiced the perfect companion for a windswept evening. Only 199 bottles were made, a nod to the 199 Steps that climb from the old town to the Abbey. Each one was hand-signed and numbered, carrying a piece of Whitby’s gothic heritage within.
A toast to Stoker and to the story that made Whitby immortal.
Transylvanian oak, British blackberries, ginger, and Yorkshire heather honey.
From the pages of folklore comes the Barghest a great black hound said to roam the moors and streets of Whitby on misty nights. Its fiery eyes are a warning of storm or sorrow to come.
Our Barghest Edition Gin captures that legend in liquid form.
Laid to rest in Transylvanian oak casks, then infused with British blackberries, ginger, and heather honey, this gin is as deep and brooding as the tale itself. At first glance, it appears almost black but when diluted, it turns a haunting blood-red hue.
Limited again but to 3 batches of 199 bottles, it was crafted for those who find beauty in the shadows and for nights when the wind howls down the cobbles.
Plum, vanilla, heather tip, and pink peppercorn.
Named for both the ship that carried Dracula to Whitby and the Greek goddess of the harvest, The Demeter Edition bridges myth and meaning.
Distilled with sweet plum, vanilla, pink peppercorn, and pepper dulse it’s a gin of balance between land and sea, life and decay, myth and craft. Smooth yet complex, it evokes the moment when a ship appears through fog on the horizon, carrying something unknown.
It reminds us that even in darkness, new stories arrive on the tide.
Cherry, Orange and Transylvanian oak.
Created to mark the 125th anniversary of Dracula’s publication, Prince of Darkness pays homage to the vampire himself.
Rich and indulgent, this citrus heavy gin is aged in Transylvanian oak, then finished with cherry.
Its deep crimson tone nods to blood and passion, its name to the timeless allure of darkness. It’s a spirit for candlelight, old stories, and the whisper of bats circling the Abbey tower.
Oak, spice, and cherry.
Not all Whitby’s legends are bound to land.
Our Marauder Rum celebrates the smuggler’s spirit, the sailors who braved wild seas, carrying barrels, stories, and secrets ashore under moonlight.
Crafted with oak, spice, and a red cherry, it’s bold and full-bodied, a toast to adventure and rebellion. A reminder that Whitby’s history is as much about courage and curiosity as it is about the supernatural..
Lemon thyme, sea buckthorn, and Whitby sea salt.
Every seven years, legend says, the Whitby Wyrm rises from the sea, a great serpent of smoke and fire.
Our Wyrm Vodka captures that elemental force. Distilled in small batches with lemon thyme, sea buckthorn, and a touch of Whitby sea salt, it’s smooth yet untamed,  the perfect marriage of fire and tide.
A spirit born of ancient myth, reborn by modern craft.

For us, these Gothic Editions are more than seasonal releases, they’re love letters to Whitby.
They tie together our town’s folklore, our coastal landscape, and our craft. Each bottle tells a story rooted in the place we call home, from the heather-covered moors to the waves that crash below the Abbey.
Through these spirits, we celebrate not only Whitby’s gothic heritage, but its enduring ability to inspire.
Some Gothic Editions are long since vanished into the night, but others return when the season calls.
